Trauma Kit

Red Heron Trauma Kit

When aftershocks happen, we might find ourselves in a crisis situation. There are resources out there to help you get through those times. The Red Heron Trauma Kit is a collection of information, tools, and methods that have helped others ground themselves and stop the trauma response.

If you are in immediate danger of attempting to harm yourself, dial your local emergency number or get to a hospital emergency room right away.
When reaching out for help, be it at a hospital or through one of the resources below, it may speed the soothing process if you take control of the care you receive. Rather than letting the care team call the shots, empower yourself to explain that the current crisis is a trauma response, share the event that triggered it, and outline the steps you've already taken to calm the storm. This puts you firmly in the driver's seat on the road to feeling better and has the added benefit of preventing your care team from wasting time with things you've already done.
